Season's Greetings from Wiltshire RoADAR
|
We wish all our members and their families a very Merry Christmas and hope you all have a happy and safe New Year.
|
2013 has been another busy year. We have had thirty two tests this year and these were split evenly between both car and bike sections. Congratulations to all those who have passed their RoSPA Advanced Test this year and a huge thank you to all tutors who have given their time freely to help associates gain the RoSPA qualification.
|
We still have a few spaces available for the First Aid course on Saturday 8th March 2014. If you would be interested in attending this please let Monica know. The course will be based around the needs of road users and will cover everything you need to do if you come across a collision, from being the first at the scene until help arrives. The training will be provided by Rainbow TDA (formerly Rubicon). This will be a full day's training using the facilities at Liddington.
The committee have agreed that the group will subsidise the cost of this course, so expect the cost to members to be around £35, depending on exact numbers. (It would be much more than that to attend a similar course otherwise.) We are trying to encourage all tutors and bike ride-out leaders to have a First Aid qualification so please consider attending this if you fall into either of these categories and don't already have an up-to-date certificate.

We are looking for someone to join the committee to take on the role of Associate/Tutor Co-ordinator for the bike section. This role entails allocating associates to tutors when they join the group. It is not a particularly onerous role but it is an important job. Please contact Monica to find out more.
|
If you have passed your RoSPA Advanced Bike Test with a Silver or Gold grade, have you considered becoming a Tutor for the group? The bike section will be running a new tutor training course starting in March 2014. The course will involve some evening theory sessions and some weekend practical sessions on the road. If you are interested please email rideouts@wiltshireroadar.co.uk.

Car Tax Discs to be abolished: Paper tax discs will be replaced with an electronic system from October 2014. The system will also allow motorists to pay for the vehicle excise duty by monthly direct debit at a cost of an additional 5%.
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA): The merger of the DSA and VOSA is nearing completion and will formally launch in April 2014. It will be known under its new name of The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.
A quicker way of repairing motorways: Connect Plus, the motorway management company which finances, operates and upgrades the M25 network on behalf of the Highways Agency, is using a new Rapid Cure technique for the replacement of concrete motorway to cut the time needed for lane closures from 1500 hours per annum to just 300.
Thanks to Chris Gleed and his contacts at AIRSO for this information.
